- Prepare a job brief, it doesn’t have to be an essay just a one page description of the role and key competencies
- Think about what you need – separate essential and desirable
- Make sure the interviewers are prepared and have read the CV, try to get the same person to do all 1st interviews for consistency
- Make sure the receptionist knows its interview day, first impressions matter and getting the receptionist involved can sometimes produce fascinating insights. The person who greets people at the door knows everyone in your business and can sometimes spot ‘people like you’
- Don’t leave it too long between 1st & 2nd
- Give feedback – its helpful for everyone
- Take feedback from the recruiter
- Make the offer that you feel is fair to both you and the candidate. Give a deadline as to when a decision should be made that will help you plan.
- Where possible get the potential candidate to meet some of their colleagues that should avoid any personality clashes later on
- When they start make them welcome – have some form of induction
- Use the recruiter to check in with the candidate to make sure everything is ok a new job can be daunting
